Establishing Kappa Chi

Francis Marion University, located in Florence, SC was established as a commuter school in 1970. Students went to class and went back home every day. One day, a group of African American men brought it to Dr. Heyward's attention that there were no extra-curricular activities on campus. Dr. Heyward took this opportunity to introduce Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to the campus. With his help, the Kappa Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity was established in December of 1975.
